Amoxicillin and Clavulanic Acid Dry Syrup is a member of the penicillin combination class of antibiotics. It is a multipurpose antibiotic that is effective against several kinds of bacteria. It is composed of two medications: Clavulanic acid and the active component of an antibiotic, Amoxicillin (that boosts the efficacy of amoxicillin). The syrup is typically used to prevent joint and bone infections, soft tissue infections of the skin, middle ear and sinus infections, respiratory tract infections of the throat or lungs, urinary tract infections, skin infections, and infections of the middle ear and sinuses.

The pathogenic germs in multidrug-resistant tuberculosis produce an enzyme called beta-lactamase. This enzyme degrades antibiotics, rendering them useless. As a result, the bacteria develop resistance to the antibiotics used to treat them. While clavulanic acid prevents the enzyme from rendering Amoxycillin ineffective, Amoxycillin acts to kill the bacteria that causes tuberculosis. As a result, the combination of amoxicillin and clavulanic acid is an effective treatment for tuberculosis.

This combination medication can be used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, including those of the ear, sinuses, throat, lungs, urinary system, skin, teeth, joints, and bones.
